PLACING THE ORDER

If you allow us to do the appeal transcripts from beginning to end your end result will be clean, concise, and appeal ready to argue transcripts you will be proud to present to the appeals court.  They will be easy to read, search via pdf and well-presented and accurate.

APPEAL TRANSCRIPT

Prior to beginning transcription of the transcript we ensure you are provided with a certificate of ordering.  After the recordings are received we will provide a quote upon request, or begin transcription of the appeal.

Throughout the course of the transcription we will provide you updates, as well as ensure nothing remains untyped in complying with the appeal transcription requirements.  This means, before omitting a portion as prescribed by the rules, we will contact you and ensure that you want it omitted, and ensure that you are advised of the proper procedure to do so.   We will also ensure that no date has been inadvertently not ordered by advising you of dates the matter was adjourned to and was not part of the original order.

We take portions previously transcribed where possible and insert them in our transcript to ensure consecutive numbering and volumes that can be easily referenced during your appeal.  WE WILL not provide 30 separate transcripts on a 30-day appeal matter.   WE WILL ensure the volumes are complete and accurate; consecutively numbered and volumized.   We ensure any omitted portions are clearly referenced to in preparing the appeal so you are aware what was not typed.

We review the recordings and ensure all reasons, rulings, charge to the jury are submitted for judicial review prior to commencing the appeal from the beginning to the end. This will ensure the justice is presented these portions and can have the time required to review prior to completion, so as not to delay the completion date.   There are times when rulings are not clearly marked, and would be submitted immediately upon completion of transcribing them.

QUOTES

A quote can be prepared for the appeal transcripts prior to completion.  We review each recording and provide an estimate based on the requirements of the appeal.  We tend to quote a bit high to allow for fast talkers, interruptions, et cetera, that often occur during the transcription process, in an effort to ensure that your final invoice is not much higher than what is quoted.

Transcripts are prepared in accordance with Ontario Government standards which mandates 32 lines per page (not including headers), font new courier 12, and specific margin requirements.  It does not matter which transcriptionist prepares your appeal, the final invoice will be the same page number, providing the formatting is followed.  If not, the final cost could be substantially higher.   Transcripts are invoiced at $4.30 per page, per Government Regulation 94/14.  We ensure 32 lines per page, proper margin set up, spacing and font.

Please visit our support page link for how the quote is prepared.  The link is found at https://vptranscription.freshdesk.com/a/solutions/articles/48001157303.

Our quotes are generally accurate within 5 to 7 pages per day of recording.

QUALITY CONTROL

Upon completion of the transcripts our in-house quality control ACT reviews the transcripts for completeness and formatting set-up to ensure accuracy on dates, certification pages, table of contents and footers.  Upon completion, a final review is completed by another Authorized Court Transcriptionist and then the pdf copies, signed and dated are released to the ordering party.  Hard copies of transcripts if required are printed by the Queens Printer, and are free of charge.  It generally takes one week for the hard copies to arrive in-house for signatures and distribution.

EXPERIENCE

We have been involved in the appeal transcription preparation since the inception in 2014 of the new court transcription module.  Prior to that our ACTs have presided in appeals in court proceedings and prepared transcripts for the Court of Appeal and Supreme Court level.

We are relied upon by the Ministry of the Attorney General and appeal counsel to transcribe accurate, on-time, and well-prepared transcript books for effective arguing of the appeal.
